An arbor press is a workshop tool that is very useful in doing mechanical work. It speeds up the work and increases productivity of the work done. It is recommended that every household must have an arbor press for easier mechanical work.
The arbor press is a tool used to remove bearings. If you also want to press objects together or to set precious gems and stones in orifices, you will need an arbor press. You can also use this for stamping.
An arbor press has different kinds. They are classified according to the amount of force that they could exert on an object. This force is measured in tons. So, there is a 1 ton arbor press, 3 ton arbor press, etc.
Arbor press plates are parts of the arbor press that aid in the easy pressing of two objects together. These arbor press plates have different size ranges. These sizes depend on how big and heavy the table mounts are. Thus, you can not press an object bigger than the arbor press itself. There are small table mounts of approximately five pounds that need to be pressed so small arbor press plates are also required. For the heavier and larger objects, that would usually exceed five hundred pounds, larger arbor press plates are required for them.
There are two sizes of arbor presses. The smaller one is used by jewelers to insert gems or precious metals to orifices. Large arbor press plates are used for pushing and pressing bigger objects. The arbor press plates are actually movable plates that are found at the bottom of the arbor press plates. There are also a series of blocks that are built in the bottom of the arbor plates for elevation and easier pressing. These arbor press plates make things easier.
Arbor press plates work by first placing them on top of the arbor press. You then have to turn the part over so that it is setting upside down on the arbor plate. You must then align the bearing with the hole so that the bearing will easily fallout.
A push pin must then be inserted into the rear of the bearing so that it sets against the backside of the bearing itself. The bearing will just fall out once enough pressure is applied. Once this is done, you have to turn the bearing over and inspect its opening. Clean it and place it on top of the arbor press plate. Position the bearing on the opening and do not force the bearing into the hole. Then align them evenly against the side of the hole. You then have to insert a bigger pushpin into the hole. Make sure that the pushpin is bigger in diameter than the bearing so that this would work properly.
The next thing to do is to apply downward pressure to the pushpin through the handle. Apply pressure gradually then. Observe the bearing gradually slipping into the cavity.
The last step is to align the bottom of the pushpin with the bearing. Make sure that the bearing is properly seated.
